A new chapter in Prichard’s governance officially began this morning, Monday, November 3, 2025, with the Inauguration Ceremony for the incoming Mayor and City Council. The event, held at 10:00 A.M. at the Prichard Municipal Complex (216 Prichard Avenue), formalized the election results from the recent municipal contests.
Carletta Davis was sworn in as the city’s new Mayor, successfully concluding her campaign against incumbent Jimmie Gardner. Mayor Davis entered office with a message grounded in transparency, accountability, and unity.
“This moment represents the start of a renewed commitment to service, accountability, and progress for every citizen of Prichard,” Mayor Davis stated. “Together, we will restore pride in our city and work to create a future rooted in transparency and unity.”
The mayor’s call for togetherness echoed the tone she set on election night, when she stated the priority was to heal divisions within city government: “Prichard has had a divided government for quite some time. We want to unify with our council and come up with a plan to move the city forward.”
The ceremony also welcomed the newly elected members of the Prichard City Council, a team representing both experience and new energy.
Among the returning and incoming members are Councilwoman Annie L. Williams (District 1), a resident of Prichard for 64 years, Councilwoman Williams brings four decades of professional experience as a registered nurse and is known for her active focus on governance and accountability issues. Councilwoman Stephani Johnson-Norwood (District 2): Having previously served as Council Vice-President, Johnson-Norwood’s re-election provides continuity and institutional knowledge on the council. Traci D. Halle, Teresa Fox-Bettis, Roy Smith, II (Districts 3, District 4, District 5): These newly elected members join the council, completing the five-member legislative body tasked with implementing the new administration’s goals for economic development and civic growth over the next term.
The inauguration ceremony officially ushered in the new term. The new administration’s platform is expected to center on improving infrastructure, enhancing community services, and attracting new investment to the city. With the new administration and council now seated, the focus shifts immediately to the legislative agenda for 2026 and implementing the campaign promises made to Prichard residents.
