Benefit Event held to honor Eric Lovett

Date:

“Step in the Name of Love benefit event was held on August 29, 2025 to celebrate the life and legacy of Mobile’s very own Eric Lovett.

This event was attended by family, friends, and supporters at The Locale on Government Boulevard. The evening featured music from Mobile’s Hottest DJs and helped to raise funds to support Lovett’s wife and small children.

Lovett, a longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama, and a native of Eight Mile, was well known as a teacher, mentor, coach, and DJ. He graduated valedictorian and class president at C.F. Vigor High School, later proceeding to Spring Hill College and the University of South Alabama. He taught mathematics, coached basketball, and guided young people across the region for nearly 30 years.

The Step in the Name of Love Benefit event brought the community together in true Mobile fashion. The floor was filled with guests line dancing, swinging out and stepping, sharing the good times that Lovett used to share. The event was a ticket only affair and every dollar went directly to assisting Lovett’s family.

The benefit highlighted the wide influence Lovett had throughout Mobile. His efforts in the classroom, his leadership on the basketball court, and his energy as a DJ created an indelible impact that stretched across schools, churches, and neighborhoods.

His passing has drawn sweeping community recognition, further shown at his Home Going Celebration at Mt. Hebron Church Ministries

As Mobile continues to remember Eric “ELove” Lovett, the Step in the Name of Love benefit stood as both a fundraiser and a tribute, a night that combined music, dance, and community togetherness, to honor a man who gave so much to his community.
