When Great Day Latte first opened its doors at 10 S. Conception St., owner Kimberly Knight stated that the business was built to address a specific absence in the local community.
“Great Day Latte is a space that was created based on community… and just fellowship,” Knight said during the shop’s original ribbon-cutting ceremony. “And it was brought upon because we did not have a space specifically created by us, so we decided to make something for us.”
As the only Black-owned and woman-owned-and-operated coffee shop in downtown Mobile, the venue has served as a gathering point for local art exhibitions, civic meetings, and creative events alongside its daily beverage operations.
2nd Anniversary Block Party at Conception Street
Great Day Latte celebrated its 2nd Anniversary by hosting “Another Year, More Love” Block Party. The celebration took place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the 10 S. Conception St., with community organization UpLift Mobile serving as the official partner for the anniversary event.
While the anniversary was scheduled as a block party, the main activities took place inside the coffee shop. Attendees filled the floor and danced alongside owner Kimberly Knight to celebrate the two-year anniversary, while B&T Island Roots LLC provided food on the scene as a last-minute addition to the event. Inside the room, DJ Hot Rod and 107.3 The Beat handled the live music sets, leading the crowd in a “happy 2nd year anniversary” chant for the shop. Behind the scenes of the anniversary, Great Day Latte credits faith, hard work, and community support for sustaining the location through its first two years downtown.
The shop floor also served as the space for a street-style poetry cypher. Instead of an elevated stage, the performance setup used a single microphone, with attendees seated and standing directly around the performers. Local spoken-word artists K. Marie Poetess and Alex Lofton aka Huggy Bear da Poet, performed individual sets at different times during the afternoon.
Great Day Latte enters its third year of business maintaining regular operational hours.
