Youth On The Winning Side (YOTWS) Marks 35 Years With 2026 Reunion And Saenger Theatre Finale

Date:

Youth On The Winning Side (YOTWS) marked a massive milestone this July, celebrating its 35th session and reunion year with a high-energy week of arts and mentorship. Nazaree Full Gospel Church hosted the week-long program from July 20 to July 24, welcoming participants ages 3 to 25 alongside returning alumni for workshops in gospel music, dance, step, and drama.

Founded by Yvonne Matthews alongside the group Nu Image, YOTWS has spent over three decades shaping young talent across the Gulf Coast. This year’s reunion leaned into that generational connection, bringing past participants back to mentor the next wave of performers.
A highlight of the week was the “Will Johnson Style Choir Rehearsal,” where attendees reminisced through beloved songs led by a 1991 alumnus and former YOTWS clinician, backed by a live band of program alumni.

Founder Matthews and alumna Vonica Lowe noted how decades of dedication continue to support new participants.

The week concluded with a grand finale concert on Friday, July 24, at Downtown Mobile’s historic Saenger Theatre, bringing families and supporters together to celebrate 35 years of community impact.
