Former MLB Pitcher Randy McGilberry Release New Book ‘Dare to Dream: Believing in Yourself’

Date:

Former MLB pitcher and Mobile Sports Hall of Fame member Randy McGilberry returned to his roots Saturday morning, hosting a community book signing for his new autobiography, Dare to Dream: Believing in Yourself.”

The event, held from 9:00 AM to noon at The Land Sports & Recreation Complex on Celeste Road in Saraland, gave baseball fans a chance to connect with the homegrown sports legend. Nicknamed “McGilla,” the former relief pitcher spent the morning signing copies and speaking directly with the community.

While sports fans remember McGilberry pitching for Satsuma High, Louisiana Tech, and the Kansas City Royals in the late 1970s, his book captures far more than box scores. “Dare to Dream” explores both the ultimate highs of reaching the big leagues and crushing personal lows, including the tragic suicide of his adult son. This raw honesty transforms the memoir into a powerful guide on resilience.

For McGilberry, launching this book tour in the Mobile area is a full circle moment. He credits his local upbringing for building the foundation that allowed him to succeed in the majors.

“I just wanted to tell people how I grew up, the kind of values I grew up with, the kind of community I grew up in, and the kind of work I had to put into it to proceed at various levels of baseball,” McGilberry explained in a recent television interview, speaking on his motivation for the autobiography.

By sharing his journey, McGilberry hopes to remind the next generation that their dreams are worth chasing.
