Africatown Groundbreaking Ceremony

Date:

May 19, 2025 represented a historical day for Mobile and the Africatown community as it hosted its long-awaited Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Africatown Welcome Center.

This isn’t an upgrade, but a brand new center. One may wonder why such a place named Africatown in America will be receiving a welcome center. It was not until the 2020 discovery of the last known slave ship, the Clotilda was found right underneath our noses, not too far offshore from Africatown.
