Song4Song Music Sets Stage for Last Song Weekend in Downtown Mobile

Two days of producer battles, live performances and independent music will bring Mobile’s creative community together October 17–18, with UpLift Mobile serving as title sponsor.

Mobile’s independent music scene will take center stage this weekend as Song4Song Music, Late Gate Empire and StudioHouse present Last Song Weekend, a two-day celebration of hip-hop, R&B and music production taking place October 17–18 in downtown Mobile.

The weekend will feature a free Producer Wars competition on Saturday at 509 Live, followed by Sunday’s ticketed Last Song Competition at Soul Kitchen Music Hall. Together, the events will give independent artists and producers an opportunity to showcase their work, connect with audiences and compete on stages built around the city’s developing music talent.

For Song4Song Music, the weekend represents more than another concert. It continues a mission that began in 2019: providing local artists with a positive platform to develop their craft while learning the business behind the music.

Through artist-development activities, Song4Song emphasizes branding, marketing, contracts, networking and performance preparation skills that can help independent musicians build careers beyond individual performances.

That emphasis on development gives Last Song Weekend a larger purpose. The competitions provide a public stage for artists and producers who spend much of their time creating, recording and promoting their music independently.

Producer Wars Opens the Weekend With Free Community Event

The weekend begins Saturday, October 17, with the Producer Wars Competition, presented at 509 Live, 270 Dauphin Street, from 1 to 6 p.m.

The free event will bring music producers together for a live competition, with a cash prize advertised for the winner. Shamonee Baker will host, with music provided by DJ Wermzer.

Organizers are also promoting free food, giveaways, meet-and-greet opportunities and special guest performances throughout the afternoon.

For attendees, Producer Wars offers a chance to experience the creative work behind the music. While recording artists often receive the spotlight, producers play a central role in shaping the beats, arrangements and sounds that define a performance.

The competition also creates an opportunity for producers, performers and other creatives to connect within Mobile’s growing independent music network.

Last Song Competition Takes Over Soul Kitchen Sunday

On Sunday, October 18, the focus shifts from music production to live performance as the Last Song Competition takes place at Soul Kitchen Music Hall, 219 Dauphin Street.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with the show beginning at 6:30 p.m. Advance admission is $15, while tickets purchased on the day of the show are $20.

The lineup brings together performers representing different styles and experiences within independent hip-hop and R&B.

Among the featured artists are Snitchfree Chapo, SMG Yung Cook, Zay the Bull, Choco Da Great, Queen LuLu, Hakeem Reed, Melodi Rose, Pablo Mac, Baby Don, WVLD, D!RTY, iismall, Culturee and NeiaBFlyy.

The roster reflects a broad mix of local and independent talent. Artists such as SMG Yung Cook and Zay the Bull bring established connections to Mobile’s underground music community, while performers including Melodi Rose and Hakeem Reed contribute R&B and melodic influences to the competition.

Others, including Choco Da Great, D!RTY, WVLD and Baby Don, represent different approaches to contemporary hip-hop, songwriting and independent music production.

With performers working across multiple styles, Sunday’s competition will give audiences an opportunity to discover artists whose music may already be circulating locally and online but whose live performances deserve greater visibility.

DJ Wermzer will provide music during the event, which will also feature food vendors, door prizes and giveaways.

A Creative Community Building Beyond the Stage

The organizations behind Last Song Weekend are part of a wider network of independent music professionals working to expand opportunities in Mobile.

Song4Song Music’s artist-development mission connects naturally with the work of StudioHouse, where music production, recording and creative collaboration help bring emerging talent together.

Dauphin Street Sound contributes to the local recording environment, while independent media platforms such as Nspire U! help connect artists and community audiences through music and programming.

The weekend also draws support from local businesses and creative brands, including Secret Scientist Clothing, Tru Stylez, Royalty Denim & Co. and Legendary Construction LLC.

Their involvement demonstrates how an independent music event can bring together more than performers and concertgoers. Recording professionals, entrepreneurs, fashion brands, promoters and media organizations all contribute to the environment in which local artists develop and share their work.

For Mobile’s independent musicians, access to that network can be as meaningful as the opportunity to perform.

UpLift Mobile Joins Last Song Weekend as Title Sponsor

UpLift Mobile is serving as title sponsor of Last Song Weekend, supporting the event and its broader mission of recognizing independent talent across the Gulf Coast.

Through its Road to the Last Song storytelling initiative, UpLift Mobile will highlight the people, preparation and performances surrounding the weekend, including participating artists, producers and organizers.

The initiative extends beyond the competitions themselves, with coverage intended to document the experience and recognize the artists whose work helps shape Mobile’s music culture.

For a city with a long tradition of musical creativity, Last Song Weekend offers another opportunity to connect that tradition with a new generation of independent performers.

The event may last only two days, but the relationships, exposure and creative opportunities developed through it can continue long after the final performance.
