City of Mobile District 1 Councilman Cory Penn and City on a Hill Community Outreach hosted their 2nd annual Community Prayer Walk at Tricentennial Park on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
Gathering families, faith leaders, and residents ahead of the new school year, the event centered around the unifying theme of “One City. One Walk. One Prayer. We are strong together!” to lift up local students, teachers, and public safety.
With Mobile County students heading back to classrooms, the evening focused heavily on praying for academic success, positive school environments, and overall community peace. Local participants walked the grounds of the park to declare positive outcomes for school performance, safety, and youth development across the city.
Councilman Penn emphasized the importance of community alignment, explaining why bringing people together right before classes resume remains important for the region.
“We’re praying over our teachers, our students, that the atmosphere is conducive for them to learn, and we declare, Lord, that the grades will be up and they will perform academically at the level that they desire . Great behavior, no issues in the school. That’s what we’re looking forward to, and we just want to come in agreement with the teachers, the administration, with the school system, ” Penn said.
The evening concluded as participants wrapped up their prayer walk across the park grounds ahead of the first day of classes.
